Utah avalanche danger extreme after two deaths, Powder Mountain slide

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Avalanche Center is reporting an extreme risk of dangerous slides after deadly accidents claimed the lives of two people in different parts of the state, and an avalanche shut down the road to Powder Mountain ski resort for the most part of two days.

"(Avalanches) are equal opportunity killers. They get skiers, snowmobilers, snowshoe-ers, whoever," said Drew Hardesty, an avalanche forecaster with the Forest Service Utah Avalanche Center. "Anybody out recreating can be prone. It sounds trite, but know before you go."
